Artlist offers a comprehensive licensing model tailored to meet the needs of individual content creators and professional teams. Understanding the license ensures every project stays protected, monetized, and in compliance with copyright regulations. This article explains what the Artlist license is, what it includes, and how it works across different platforms and use cases.
What is an Artlist license?
An Artlist license lets you download from professionally curated content catalogs, including music, SFX, footage, templates, and AI-generated content, and sync them into your creative projects such as videos, podcasts, ads, and films for publishing and monetization.
The Pro license provides worldwide coverage and applies across a wide variety of platforms and use cases.
Music, SFX, Footage, and Templates
These assets are yours to use in any project you create and publish while your subscription is active. If a project is completed and published while your subscription is active, you maintain the right to use the assets in that published project even if you later cancel your subscription. Once your subscription expires, these assets cannot be used in new projects.
AI-Generated Content
When you create AI-generated content with Artlist, it’s fully yours. You keep the rights to the generated outputs. You can use AI-generated outputs however you like, including for commercial purposes, even after your subscription expires, as long as you follow our license terms and avoid any forbidden uses.
Artlist offers various subscription plans to meet your needs. All plans include access to curated catalogs, Artlist Academy, asset certificates, and support.
If our standard licenses don’t cover your specific needs, reach out to us to create a tailor-made business plan.
Note: AI-generated content created by Artlist and downloaded from Artlist’s AI Explore page or an Artlist Catalog is considered to be an Asset and is covered under the Asset license. If you complete and publish a project using these downloaded assets while your subscription is active, you retain the right to use them in that published project even after your subscription ends. However, once your subscription expires, these assets cannot be used in new projects, even if they were edited from the original.
Who is eligible for a license?
The Artlist license is available worldwide. Artlist is committed to complying with the sanctions laws and regulations of the United States, the EU and Israel. Accordingly, we will not trade with or provide any services to sanctioned countries or individuals/entities named on a sanctions list. For more information, please see our Terms of Use.
What does the Social license cover?
The Social license is exclusively for personal content creators and is ideal for hobbyists, vloggers, or independent creators, who don’t create projects for clients or brands.
With this license, you can Clearlist (connect your YouTube channel or videos to your Artlist account, ensuring YouTube recognizes your licensed music and helps prevent copyright claims) a single channel for each of the following platforms:
- Youtube
- TikTok
- Twitch
- Plus a single Podcast
So don’t forget to add your channels to the Clearlist.
What does the Pro license cover?
The Pro license is designed for professional creators who need to Clearlist more than one channel per platform, or who create projects for clients and brands. It allows publishing on a wider range of platforms and media, such as websites, TV, podcasts and films, and covers both personal and client use for the specific projects created.
Note: For a full list of plans that include the Pro license, check out Artlist plans explained.
How does Artlist’s license cover monetization?
Artlist’s license supports monetization on all major platforms. Any project completed and published during an active subscription remains cleared for monetization, even after the subscription ends.
To ensure projects are covered for monetization:
- Select a subscription plan that includes the license coverage needed for the intended use.
- Update your Clearlist with the requested channels for clearance, or YouTube videos and website URLs, for proper coverage for social platforms and websites.
Note: The Clearlist must be updated while your subscription is active to enable monetization on YouTube, social platforms, and websites. Once a plan expires, you will no longer have the ability to add new channels or content to the Clearlist.

Can I use Artlist music in a playlist video?
You cannot use Artlist music in a playlist video. Artlist’s sync license supports use of music as background music in video projects, not as standalone audio or as the main theme of the video.
Using Artlist music in a playlist-style video, where the main purpose is to present music for passive listening, is not permitted. This includes content such as music-only compilations, audio tracks with static images, or videos created primarily to share or distribute the music itself.

You can use AI-generated outputs, such as AI-generated images however you like, including printed merchandise and advertisements as long as you follow our license terms and avoid any forbidden uses.

Yes, social users who publish projects on their personal channels can monetize and may have a business setup, including a VAT ID. The Social license is intended for individual content creators using it on their personal channels, regardless of whether the use is purely personal or also includes commercial elements like monetization or sponsorships.
Can I publish or broadcast a project once my subscription ends?
Artlist music, SFX, footage, and templates must be published or broadcast while your subscription is active for them to remain licensed. AI-generated outputs can be used as you wish, even after your subscription expires.
Example:
If you publish a video with Artlist music, SFX footage, or templates while subscribed and it’s later shown at a film festival (after your subscription ends), the license is still valid. But if you wait to publish the video until the festival date, with no active subscription, the license will not be valid.
