Projects are the top level of how your work is organized in Artlist AI Tools. A project holds folders, and folders hold your creations: Project → Folder → Creation. For example, a project called Nike can hold folders called Winter collection and Product shots. Projects were introduced on November 2, 2026.
How projects and folders fit together
- A project holds folders. It does not hold creations directly.
- A folder lives in one project and holds your creations. Folders cannot be placed inside other folders.
- You always generate inside a folder. A new creation is saved in the folder you have open.
- A creation lives in exactly one folder. Moving it takes it out of the old folder.
Project tabs
Your open projects appear as tabs along the top, above your folder tabs. Click a project tab to switch to that project. Its folders appear in the row below.
All projects
Click the + at the end of the project tabs to open All projects. The first card, New project, creates a project. Every other card is one of your projects, showing its name, how many folders and creations it holds, and when you last worked in it. Click a card to open the project: its folders open where you left off, or a new Untitled folder opens if the project has none. To rename or delete a project from here, click the ⋯ on its card.
Create a project
- Click the + at the end of the project tabs.
- Click the New project card.
The new project opens right away, named Untitled project, with the name ready to edit. It also opens with its first folder, Untitled folder, so you can start generating. This starting folder cannot be renamed or deleted until it contains creations. Once it does, you can rename or delete it like any other folder.
Rename a project
Double-click the project name in its tab and type the new name. Press Enter to save or Esc to cancel. If you leave the name empty, the previous name stays. You can also right-click a project tab and choose Rename, or click the ⋯ on a project card in All projects and choose Rename. You can rename a project at any time, even when it is new and empty.
Close a project
Click the ✕ on a project tab, or right-click the tab and choose Close project. Choose Close other projects to close every other open project tab and keep this one. Closing a project tab does not delete the project, and you can reopen it from All projects.
Delete a project
Right-click the project tab and choose Delete, or click the ⋯ on the project card and choose Delete. Then confirm. The confirmation shows how many folders and creations will be deleted. Deleting a project permanently deletes every folder and creation in it. This cannot be undone.
You cannot delete your last project: Delete is unavailable for it. If you delete the project you are working in, you move to your most recent other project.
Your existing folders
All your former sessions are now folders inside your first project, named Default. Nothing was deleted or changed. You can rename or delete the Default project like any other project, as long as it is not your last one. New accounts start with one project.
Move a folder to another project
- Right-click the folder tab and choose Move.
- In the picker, choose a project. Your current project is greyed out.
The folder moves to that project, together with all its creations. A confirmation toast with a link to the project appears, and you stay where you are.
On mobile and tablet
At the top of the screen, the project and folder menu shows where you are, for example Nike / Folder 04. Tap it to see your projects and their folders, switch folders, or add a New Folder.
Commonly asked questions
What is the difference between a project and a folder?
A project is the top level and holds folders. A folder holds your creations. A project can be a client or a campaign, and a folder one part of it.
Can I create a folder inside another folder?
No. Folders live directly inside a project and cannot be nested.
Can I generate directly into a project?
No. Open or create a folder in the project, then generate. Your creation is saved in that folder.
Can I move a creation to a different project?
Yes. Hover over the creation, click the More (⋯) icon, select Move, and pick a folder in any project. Learn more.
Are References organized into projects?
No. References stay in one place, under References in the side navigation.
Can I recover a deleted project?
Deleting a project permanently deletes everything in it. Before you delete a project, move any folders you want to keep to another project.
Where did my sessions go?
Sessions are now called folders, and they are inside your first project. Learn more about folders.
