Studio: Understanding Directing

Directing allows you to generate precise, controllable videos by defining camera settings, composition, and visual style.

Setting up your shot

After creating your character, location, and framing your shot, you can begin setting up to direct your video.

In the left -side panel under "Directing," you’ll establish these core settings:

  • Model: Select the specific AI model. For further details about our models, check out our articles here. 

Note: Only Veo models should be used for non-English audio. 

  • Resolution: Choose the visual quality of the output
  • Aspect Ratio: Define the dimensions of your shot
  • Camera Type: Select from a wide variety of camera emulations to replicate specific film or digital looks.

  • Camera Lens: Choose a lens to define the visual depth and perspective.

Adjust Composition Settings

At the bottom of the Directing prompt panel , you can refine how your shot is visually constructed:

Number of Output Videos: How many variations of the shot you want the AI to generate.

Note: The number of output videos will affect credit cost.

Duration: Define the length of the generated video clip (model dependent).

Motion: Control the virtual camera movement.

Audio toggle - model dependent

  • Auto-Generated Voice: Let the model generate a unique voice for the video
  • Character Voice: Use the character’s saved voice for consistent speech across shots.

Using the Library

To make your scene more consistent or detailed, you can enhance your prompts by selecting from a library of pre-built assets or by creating your own unique characters and locations.

Add a Location or Character

  1. Click the Location or Character icon in the prompting area.
  2. Browse the library
  3. Select your desired asset
  4. Click Use in Project

The selected asset will be automatically inserted into your prompt at the cursor location, allowing the AI to integrate it seamlessly into the generation.

Note: You can also tag the asset to add it. For example, if you have a character named Flo, using @Flo in the prompt box will add that character.

Creating a new frame from a previous video

You can easily create a new frame using any existing frame from your video timeline.

  1. Navigate to the desired point in your video timeline.
  2. Click the frame capture icon.

The selected frame will automatically be added to the framing prompt area, where it can be used as either the start or end frame for a new video.

Writing your Prompt

Once your technical parameters are set, it’s time to compose the creative description in the Directing Prompt field. You have two options for structuring your input:

Free Form

A single open text field for writing prompts in a flexible, traditional way. You can describe the scene holistically.

Structured

This guided format helps you build highly detailed prompts by breaking them down into essential narrative and stylistic sections. The structure changes slightly depending on whether you have already selected library assets.

If starting without predefined assets, the structured prompt asks for:

  • Subject / Character: Who or what is in focus? Include any secondary subject.
  • Location: Where does the scene take place?
  • Action: What’s happening in the scene? Describe the movement.
  • Composition: Where are the subjects within the frame?
  • Style: Describe the look (e.g. cinematic, animated, 3D).
  • Mood: Describe the tone, colors, time of day, lighting
  • Sound: What does the character say? Include dialogue, tone of voice, and any background audio.

If starting with predefined assets (Character, Location, Start frame), the structured prompt focuses on:

  • Action: What’s happening in the scene? Describe the movement.
  • Sound: What does the character say? Include dialogue, tone of voice, and any background audio.

💡Pro Tip: Continue to click Auto-prompt or edit manually until you see your ideal prompt. Click the back button to revert to the previous prompt.

Generating a video

Once your prompt is ready, generate your video by clicking on the Generate button.

Note: Hovering over the Generate button will show the credit cost of the generation.

  • Generated frames will appear in the left-side panel of the prompt field.
  • Click any image to load it into the Directing right-panel area.

The video will also be added to the Shot Sequence, you can :

  • You can reorder your shots by dragging and dropping
  • Identify missing shots 
  • Generate additional shots or frames as needed

Downloading your video

When the video is in the main panel on the right-side, click the download button to download.

Note: You can also download generations from My Creations.

Accessing your Video ID

Accessing your Video ID can be helpful if you need to contact Support.

  1. From the Framing or Directing panel, click My Creations.

  1. From the Library, toggle Show Drafts to On.
  2. Filter your Creations according for Shots.

  1. Click on any Shot.
  2. Click on the ‘i’ icon.

  1. Hover over the ‘i’ icon and select Copy.
