Some DaVinci Resolve Studio users may experience issues when working with templates, particularly when using version 18. A known Fusion compositing tool bug can break links within projects, causing placeholders and effects to fail to connect to the final composition. This article outlines how to identify and fix these problems.
How to fix black screen issues
A black screen may indicate missing fonts.
- Verify that all required fonts included with the template have been installed.
- For more detailed steps, see the Troubleshooting DaVinci Resolve templates guide.
How to fix broken Fusion node links
In some cases, nodes in the Fusion page may be disconnected due to the version 18 bug.
- In the Edit page, locate the timeline containing the Fusion composition.
- In many templates, this is located under Others > Timelines and named Main.
- Right-click the clip and select Open in Fusion Page.
- Look for unconnected nodes. For example, MediaIn4 may not be connected to ColorCorrector2. Drag from the output box on the right side of the disconnected node to reconnect it.
How to manually replace placeholders
If all nodes are connected but the template still does not display correctly, placeholders may need to be replaced manually.
- Open the Fusion page.
- Locate the MediaIn nodes that correspond to placeholders.
- Drag the correct placeholder files from the Media Browser directly onto the MediaIn nodes.
2. Then, within your project, locate the clip that has the fusion composition associated with it. In the case of this template, it’s here in the Others > Timelines folder and called Main.
In the edit window, right click on the clip and select Open in Fusion Page.
In this case, the MediaIn4 node was unconnected to the ColorCorrector2 node, so we just need to simply drag from the box on the right of the node to connect it back up.
If everything looks connected on Fusion but the template still isn’t working, then you may need to manually replace the placeholders. Simply drag the placeholder media from the media browser to the MediaIn nodes like in the screenshot below.
